Last of 2008 or first of 2009?

Well, no sooner did I get so excited about the possibilities of a new year and new paintings, did I see something new! Although, I'm not sure if this was technically the last painting of 2008 or the first of 2009.

The brothers of Pi Delta Psi painted in their black, red, and white colors. Great job!

Happy New Year!

It's been cold, rainy, icy, and snowy in Connecticut the past few weeks. But, that's just the way it goes in New England, right?!? Unfortunately there were no warm and sunny vacations for this Rock Watcher over the holidays.

I'm so excited for 2009! New year. New things happening. And, hopefully, new paintings of the Rock. There are so many exciting events in the next few months that would be PERFECT for a little paint action - relay for life, huskython, oozeball, graduation, USG elections, basketball... the possibilities are endless! Let's see what folks can come up with!

I'm back and my camera batteries are charged. Keep painting and I'll keep watching...

Good Luck with Finals

I was hoping that someone would paint a new message to wish all the UConn students luck on their finals... I suppose that I could do it, but I'm really not that handy with a paint brush. :)

Things have slowed down for the semester, but I expect them to pick up again in January. If there is anyone out there who wants to paint the Rock over winter break, let me know! I'll still be watching for new paintings and will post them as I see them.

Good luck with finals, everyone!

Back from break

There was a little break in the painting action since everyone went home for Thanksgiving break last week.  But the painting has resumed!

The brothers of Delta Chi painted the Rock today, and it looks like they are back from break and ready to hit the books for finals, perhaps?  Maybe not, but they are back in full force for something!

Only a few more weeks before winter break...  how many times can the Rock be painted before the campus empties?  Keep painting... I'm still watching...

Alpha Gamma Rho paints the rock for Thanksgiving Break

Alpha Gamma Rho, the agricultural fraternity painted the rock in their colors yellow and green. The rock really shows their pride in their organization and in writing their inception at the University of Connecticut, 1958. Its great to see traditions such as fraternities as well as the rock last, especially during the beginning of our Thanksgiving break when valuing tradition is so important. Staying involved with your organization through the years is vital. Alpha Gamma Rho would probably not be at the status they are today without support of their alum spanning from 1958. This is why staying connected is so important! I hope everyone has a nice break, and remember when we come back..keep painting, and I'll keep watching...

Lambda Alpha

Lambda Alpha, the national honors society for Anthropology, did a great job! Love the globe!
Among the comments written on the back of The Rock I think my favorite - by far - is in the lower right corner in red: "Hire me I know stuff". Wouldn't it be great if you could just put that in a cover letter or on a resume and get hired?!? You can't really see it too well in this photo, so go check it out for yourself... until someone paints over it!
Speaking of "hire me"... did you know that the Alumni Association has a great online community for UConn alumni and students? One of the neat features is a Career Network with job searching and resume posting services. You just never know who is out there reading these "hire me" messages! Check it out at www.uconnalumni.com/HAN.

PSE Fall '08 Paints The Rock

Pi Sigma Epsilon, UConn's co-ed marketing, management, and sales fraternity represented their new Fall 2008 pledge class on The Rock. PSE is very active on campus through community service, social events, and in bringing speakers and seminars to campus. Not only that, but they painted a great rock! With only a week or so till Thanksgiving Break, get your organization on The Rock and in the blog! Keep painting..and I'll keep watching!
